Hard to believe but it is already week five of the Fast Friday's Motorcycle Speedway 2025 season. What an exciting night week five was. The Fast Friday's track at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn Ca. was the backdrop for a movie being filmed in and around Auburn, it was also Legends and Vintage Night.

Racing motorcycle legend Sonny Nutter was honored for his incredible racing career which began in the 1960s and included motorcycle flat track, TT and motorcycle speedway racing with to many championships to mention. Working in a motorcycle repair shop at 13-years-old Nutter was surrounded by Southern California racetracks. In the 1970s, racing speedway bikes, Nutter could be found tearing up the local tracks sometimes five nights a week. “Mr. Charisma,” as he is lovingly referred to is a joy to meet and he is always eager to share stories of his long and exciting racing career. Nutter was on hand autographing photos, shaking hands and even handing out trophies to the winners of the races at the end of the evening. Always with a smile on his face, Nutter is a true racing champion.

Broc Nicol, on fire at Fast Friday's and on Southern California speedway tracks, picked up his third scratch main event of the season and was crowned the “Fastest man of the Night.” Nicol, the current 2024 AMA National Speedway Champion, was unbeatable in the scratch program. Nicol won his heat, semi-final and then on to win the main event. So far this season Nicol has the three scratch main events, two in a row, and Billy Janniro has two scratch main event wins, they are the only two riders to win scratch mains this season.

Nicol drew the inside lane in the final race, Janniro was next to Nicol in lane two, Charlie Trana was in lane three and rounding the night's finale was Wilbur Hancock outside in lane four. Nicol, getting a great start, got the hole shot in turn one and held the lead for the entire race. Young Trana, having a great night was on his tail but the champ kept him at bay leading by a bike length to the finish tapes. Trana was second, Hancock was third and Janniro fourth.

Charlie Trana climbed up on the winner's podium for the first time this season with a win in the handicap main event. He took the hard way to the main finishing fourth in his heat race, finishing second in his semi-final race that was restarted because of a crash. Off the 20 yard-line he put it together winning the main but not without a serious challenge by Gregory Moore for the six-lap race. Moore was second and Daniel Faria was third.

Antonio Coffman picked up a win in the Support Class main event also his first main event of the season. Coffman also had a perfect night winning each time he rolled on the track winning both his heat races and the main. Catherine Moore, one half of the brother-sister Moore's racing family at Fast Fridays, finished second winning both her heat races but finishing second in the main to Coffman. Mike Newnham was third.

Jameson Hutchinson continued his winning the Youth 250cc main event. Hutchinson has won four of the five Youth 250cc main events so far this season dropping just one main event in week one to Brady Landon. New to the Youth 250cc division Riley Rearick made his debut Friday night moving up to the 250cc class. On his first night out Rearick finished third behind his big brother Wesley Rearick who finished second in the main event.

In the Youth 150cc divisions Zander Schroeder won the Division 1 division main event, Liam Falcon was second and Brady Wills was third. Mason Howell topped the Division 2 main event, Leeann Emerson was second and Gavin Evans-Seeley was third. Hank Hanaway won the Division 3 main event, William Bruce was second and Zeva Schroeder was third.

In a tribute to the early days of speedway racing Fast Fridays took a look back running a vintage class. Three riders climbed on older upright engine bikes with pogo stick forks for a trip into yesteryear on these early racing machines. Billy Janniro won the exhibition followed by Rees Todd and Jim Mason.

Get ready next week for the second round of the Extreme Sidecar Series. The Extreme Sidecars will be making five appearances this season including the AMA National Extreme Sidecar Championships on August 30. These crazy racers on three wheeled 1000cc motorcycles thrill Fast Friday's fans each time they show up.

Not to be missed for an exciting night of racing proving Fast Fridays is, “The place to be on Friday nights.”
